| Righteous Kill DVD Review Righteous Kill is the setting for a reunion 30 years in the making. Finally, two of Hollywood's greatest stars, Robert de Niro and Al Pacino are staring in the same film together. Excited? So was I, but Righteous Kill left me quite disappointed and actually cheated because the movie is so bad. de Niro and Pacino plays two cops, Turk and Rooster respectively, who after 30 years of service have one last case to solve. Their job is to track down a serial killer who is murdering criminals that 'slipped through the net', both men want to reward the serial killer but instead they have to stop him before he strikes again. The major plus point for Righteous Kill is the cast. It is great to see de Niro and Pacino on the same screen together. But neither seem to have a rapport and on-screen chemistry with one another. Despite the impressive cast Righteous Kill has a number drawbacks, that make Righteous Kill one of the worst movies I have reviewed this year. Firstly, despite their obvious credentials, neither de Niro nor Pacino deliver performances anywhere near their best. Both characters are dull and to make matters even worse, the script they have to work with is terrible, it is predictable and generally boring. It is generally agreed that for a thriller to be classed as 'good', there needs to be good acting and on screen chemistry, sharp dialogue, gripping action and twists in the plot; unfortunately Righteous Kill fails in all areas. Furthermore, the appearance of 50 Cent meant the movie lost all credibility for me. 50 Cent is definitely not an actor and is not even a very good rapper, he has no place in a movie like this. Random hip hop club scenes are added into an otherwise serious plot. The only saving grace is that his appearance is relatively brief and the scenes are so random that they did make me laugh. Righteous Kill's plot and ending is ruined within the first 3 minute sequence of the film. Other than the fact that it is de Niro and Al Pacino, there are very few positives to draw from this movie. It has been estimated that $60 million was spent on producing the movie and from early showings I think they may find it difficult to break even. It is an achievement on behave of the directors and producers to have two of Hollywood's finest as your leads and still make one of the worst movies of not just this year but of the decade. Righteous Kill is a another in a long list of flops in recent years for both legendary actors, both will need to choose their roles more carefully if they want to hit their previous heights and retain their even famous reputations. Overall, I was thoroughly disappointed and bored by this movie and would not recommend to going to see it or even wasting 2 hours of your life watching it on DVD. |
